Rubin Jaffe Dies July 31 2008
PAWLET, Vt. — Dr. Rubin Jaffe, 85, of Pawlet and a long term figure in the New
England tennis scene, formerly of Colchester, Conn., died Thursday, July 31,
2008, in Naples, Fla. He was born in Willimantic, Conn., the son of the late
Abraham and Rose Jaffe.
He was a graduate of the University of Connecticut and Illinois College of
Optometry. He was also a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of World War II.
Dr. Jaffe was a local and regional tennis competitor, was elected to the New
England Division of the Tennis Hall of Fame, and was past president of the New
England Lawn Tennis Association. He was also a former School Board member in
Portsmouth, N. H.
He leaves his wife, Carol who is also an avid tournament player and member of
the New England Senior Tennis Foundation Board of Directors; son Dr. Andrew
Jaffe and wife Nancy of Bow, N. H.; two daughters, Elizabeth Jaffe and husband
Roy Cutler of Jericho, Vt., and Anne Murray and husband Brian of
Mechanicsville, Va.; and six grandchildren. Dr. Jaffe had suffered from
Alzheimer's Disease the past few years.
