The
United States Tennis Association (USTA) recently announced the selection of Lee
Delfausse of Waitsfield, Vermont, as a member of the U.S. Kitty Godfree Cup
Team for women 65 and over.
Delfausse
will represent the United States at the International Tennis Federation (ITF)
Super Seniors World Team Championships on red clay at Ali Bey Resort near
Antalya, Turkey October 11-16. This annual event sponsored by the ITF is
comparable to the Fed Cup and Davis Cup competitions for professional tour
players.

She is
one of a four-woman team chosen from the top American players in her age
division. Her teammates include playing captain Betty Wachob (Panama City FL),
Suella Steel (La Jolla CA), and Charleen Hillebrand (San Pedro CA). Delfausse
won the 50 Grass Court National Doubles Championship four times and the 50
Nationals Indoor Singles Championship once.
Delfausse
is a 1969 graduate of University of California Berkeley and is working toward a
master’s degree at the University of New Hampshire. She has been the president
of the New Hampshire division of the USTA New England Tennis Association. An
inductee in the New England Tennis Hall of Fame, she also won a Sportsmanship
Award at a National Mother/Daughter Championship event. Currently she works as
a writer and as a teaching pro and fundraiser for Sportsmouth Tennis in
Portsmouth, NH.
This is
Delfausse’s second year on a USA team in an international tennis competition.
As a former national ski champion, she takes great pride in being a
representative of the USA in international competition in two sports – skiing
and tennis.
